Tuesday 14 July
BBEdit on Mac, something I haven't used for about 15 years. Saw there was a new version and thought I'd give it a run up against some of my more 'modern' editor choices. It's not the most beautiful but is great for doing stuff like editing files quickly on remote servers. I know that barely scratches the surface but it is very versatile: I tend to use 3 different editors for different things but you could probably do it all in this one.
Friday 10 July
So very hot today. Sheltering in the Skiff, which is celebrating its 20th birthday.
Wednesday 8 July
Messed something up and feeling sad as a result.
I didn't mess up after all and everything is fine.
Tuesday 7 July
Didn't do Park Run at the weekend as was too hot, but really want to get a run in before I start losing the ability. Not sure how long that would take, how precarious my running capacity it, but seems like a couple of weeks would have an impact. So I got up and out early to beat the heat, although probably not quite early enough, was already pretty hot by 0730.
Was really great, as usual.
Friday 3 July
Have retired Uberspace. Was a good experiment, really like the platform and might go back to it at a later date. Meanwhile I have this server running for another couple of months all paid for, so using that instead.
Sunday 14 June
The weather is back. I have had a long and delicious sleep. I did Park Run yesterday and I think that has contributed. This is really sounding like a running blog now, which is weird as this is still a relatively new thing for me.
Am reading lots of entertaining posts from Dave at Ratfactor about creating, making good choices, finishing things etc. I have a free Sunday morning stretched out before me so let's make something with it.
Wednesday 10 June
Back from a run. Big mistake going after lunch and a too large focaccia.
Monday 8 June
Lots of time spent this morning trying to get my Freebsd jails working to serve simple sites like this one, among other things. A bit of a pain in the arse and am wondering whether it's actually worth it all. Time might be better spent making things. I sometimes confuse debugging complex server configs with 'making things' but they are not the same.
Later...
Surprisingly, I can run the remote server for the Zed editor on Uberspace. Didn't think that would work. Is it any better than typing in vim? Possibly, although for some reason the autocomplete suggestions are even more aggressive than usual. What I want is just to open the file over SFTP like we used to back in the day, maybe will have to use Transmit for that.
Friday 5 June
Today, working on a different website, I decided to test out Claude and its 'frontend' skill. Sounded like fun. It's not fun. It's made a weird thing, a machine's idea of a web page.
As it made the page it did its running commentary thing, which seemed stranger than usual perhaps due to the skill being invoked. It was so eager to please, yet completely failed to do so. I almost felt sorry for it. I closed the window, and came back to this page, started typing in my manual tags.
It is Thursday 4 June. Testing out Uberspace and really liking it so far.
Need to go and pick up my phone from the repair unit, hopefully with a fully functioning battery
Snapped a pic of the view from my iPad right now as I sit in the cafe, easily uploaded with SecureShellFish. Great app.
Can also log in to the Mini at home via Tailscale to find that it is blazing away under the load of Backblaze and medianalysisd as usual.
Only disappointment of this iPad thing so far is the terrible typing latency using Obsidian directly on this device. I know people moan about its mobile performance but I thought it had got better. Frustrating if not, would drive me mad having to write significant amounts of text in that (which I generally do on desktop). Maybe will have to find another way.
Later: editing from Ghostty on Mac, which needed the terminfo override but now all good with a tmux session.
